Kia ora, Welcome
Nau mai, haere mai (Greetings to all)
Welcome to the website for the 48th World Conference for the International Council for Traditions of Music and Dance. We look forward to welcoming all returning ICTMD members and new participants to an exciting and memorable world conference.
This year our conference is located in New Zealand, an island nation situated in the South West Pacific. Also called Aotearoa in their indigenous Māori language, the country is home to over 5 million people.
The host city is Wellington, the vibrant capital city of the country, holding the indigenous name, Te Whanganui-a-Tara. This will be the first conference held in New Zealand, and the third within Oceania in the council’s history.
Te Herenga Waka, Victoria University and Te Kōkī the New Zealand School of Music will be hosting us. In collaboration with Tourism New Zealand and Business Events Wellington, the venue for the conference will be Tākina, Wellington’s new convention and exhibition centre.
With sincere manaakitanga (hospitality), the local arrangements committee looks forward to warmly welcoming all ICTMD members to Wellington in 2025.
Ngā Mihi,
Brian Diettrich,
Chair of Local Arrangements
