Discover and explore the preserved foundations of whareponga (buildings) and hidden treasures from the old pā (fortified village) site uncovered during construction in 2005.Te Aro Pā was one of the largest Māori communities in Wellington until the 1880’s. View the archaeological remains of a whareponga (house) at the Pā site, hear the story of the people who lived at the Pā.

Walk the streets of Wellington to discover remnants of Waimapihi Stream and gaze across the harbour to learn about the explorer that founded this land. 

Our tour guides take you through our historical and cultural journey from an indigenous perspective and unearth the rich and diverse culture of Te Whanganui a Tara.
