Welcome to the Perinatal Society New Zealand!

We’re pleased to present an exciting line up for the next PSNZ Annual Scientific Meeting on 5 - 6th November 2019, with our theme of “Hearts & Minds: Interdisciplinary Wellbeing & Maximising Potential” delivering fantastic guest speakers, presentations, and workshops that we are sure every discipline will find valuable.

We have an exciting 2 day programme to offer you, at a great central Wellington location – the beautiful Tiakiwai Conference Centre, which is located inside the National Library in Wellington. Earlybird registrations and abstract submissions are now open.

What’s on the programme?

Our two keynote speakers will cover essential topics relating to addressing loss in the perinatal period, and supporting families and whanau through this time.

Rachel Callander: Powerless to Empowered

We are excited to welcome Ms. Rachel Callander back to NZ. A world renowned speaker who is known to deliver her message with passion, beautiful imagery … no “death by powerpoint”, and flair. Her message is simple, validating and powerful leaving you with actionable, productive takeaways ready to implement as soon as you leave your seat!  Rachel will also offer a workshop (limited numbers) in the afternoon of the 2nd day which will build on your learnings from her keynote address.  We guarantee, not something to be missed.  

Dr Mark Huthwaite: NICU, when Adversity becomes Trauma 

We are also honoured to welcome Dr. Mark Huthwaite as our other Keynote Speaker. Mark is a Perinatal Psychiatrist affiliated with both the University of Otago and CCDHB Specialist Maternal Mental Health Service. His presentation “NICU, when Adversity becomes Trauma” will give you insight as to why and how significant maternal mental health problems arise when faced with the challenge of having a critically ill newborn and ways this can be managed.   

Our two keynote speakers are supported by an exciting line-up of speakers and topics including neurodevelopment, mental health, developmental therapy, cardiac management, and gut health. Each session has been designed to cover the full journey from antenatal considerations through to postnatal care to ensure all aspects of perinatal care are incorporated into the programme.

We are also pleased to advise that we will be accepting Abstracts for both oral presentations along with Poster submissions. We strongly encourage submissions from New Investigators, which will be showcased in a dedicated session highlighting emerging research from around New Zealand. And once again, prizes will be made available for the best Oral and Poster presentation given by a New Investigator. Abstract Submission guidelines (including prize eligibility) are available on the website. Please ensure you indicate whether you would like to be considered for the New Investigator Award at the time of submission.
