Doors open at 6pm, with beverages and canapes on arrival and a chance to mix and mingle with our speakers.

Attendees should be seated by 6.45pm, for a 7pm start. (Expected finish time of 9pm)

As the parent of a baby who spent his/her first hours, days or months of their lives in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, we know you’ve stepped into a brand new world and we know the journey has not been easy. 

Please join us to hear two inspirational speakers; one whom will share with you the history of the Wellington Neonatal Unit and the other who will offer practical strategies to help manage Life after NICU.

Key Speaker: Dr Vaughan Richardson

The Wellington Neonatal Unit Journey - Ranked amongst the best in the world, the Wellington Neonatal Unit has over 1100 of New Zealand’s smallest and most fragile citizens pass through its doors every year. This is a rare chance to hear from the head of the unit, Dr Vaughan Richardson, about his reflections on where it started, what makes them so successful, and where to next.


Key Speaker: Dr Mark Huthwaite

Regardless of the length or reason for your stay, for many parents and their whanau their NICU journey is life changing, and can have lasting effects and impact on mental health and wellbeing long after your transition home. Dr. Mark Huthwaite, a Perinatal Psychiatrist affiliated with both the University of Otago and CCDHB Specialist Maternal Mental Health Service will deliver insights into the psychological impacts and practical strategies to deal with the effects of having lived the experience of being a NICU parent. 

The Perinatal Society of New Zealand is for any Health Professional or Scientist aiming for the best care of the fetus / newborn. The Perinatal Society encompasses the ever growing community of scientists, medical professionals from a whole array of disciplines and community advocates, all of whom are passionate about ensuring the best possible outcomes for women and babies, and their families and whanau. We are committed to working together to ensure that the Society is a place where all of us have an opportunity to share ideas, find support and strengthen the links between antenatal and postnatal care as well continue to nurture relationships between our different institutions.

Wellington Hospitals Foundation is the official charity for Wellington Regional Hospital, Wellington Regional Children’s Hospital, Kenepuru Hospital and Kapiti Health Centre.
